Team GL proudly presents Norway's very first girl-only tournament for StarCraft 2!
At Sunday, the 8th of July, team GL is hosting Norway's first SC2 tournament for girls only. The tournament will house a maximum of 64 female players on their respective European SC2 accounts. Team GL is doing this to promote their own female division, and at the same time increase the gaming community for female RTS gamers. Since team GL will stream the entire event, this is a unique opportunity for both female gamers and their fans, as they will be able to see high level play coming from girls, in what tends to be a male concentrated community.
GLsiriuzh is the manager of the female team GL, and hopes this tournament will be the first of many, to increase competitiveness at all levels amongst females in Europe. She also underlines that the most important aspect of StarCraft2 is to have fun, whether you define fun as winning a tournament and taking the #1 spot in the prize pool, or as having an entertaining time playing SC2 is of course completely up to you. There are currently not a lot of female pro players, this is currently a highly man dominated scene, which can lead to questioning girls' abilities to compete at the highest level. Siriuzh does however not believe this is to be a problem, and that the female scene is growing to overcome such stereotypes. She also hopes that this tournament will encourage more girls to enter the casual and competitive scene, to show that it is alright for girls to have fun with games as well, and that games are not only made for guys.
The event has a quite impressive prize pool, and even though this is hoped to not be the main attraction of the event, it certainly should not deter females from entering.
